April16 Bhutan

April 16, 2012.

Left Kathmandu at 8:30 for a hour flight to Paro, clear blur skies so we have had a chance to see Mount Everest and K2 as well as a lot of the Himalayas on the flight over. The decent into Paro is a bit unusual as you are flying through a narrow valley and the mountain are right along side you and you land going slightly down hill. But all was good and we arrived to a very nice day. The accommodations here are really great, on a hill side overlooking part of the valley and the airport.. After I booked into the hotel was greeted by my driver and guide for the next 10 days. The after a short rest I was off to the Paro Rimpong Dzang across the valley which is the administration and religious centre for the Paro area. It was build in the 1600's and was a monastery at one time. Then it was off to the oldest monastery in Bhutan the Paro Kyichu Chakhang, having been build in 0690,s. Then a stroll through the village and lunch, then back to the hotel and a rest before dinner. The area around Paro is very beautiful and if not for the houses and different buildings, one could say that it looks much like the area around Kamloops, B.C., same pine trees and hills. Air quality is very good. Very quite, nice after the noise ans hectic traffic of Kathmandu. Very good dinner, on this tour all is included from the meals to the accommodations to the car and guide. All the guides and drivers wear the traditional dress of Bhutan and all speak very good English.
School is mandatory in Bhutan up to year 10 and the all learn English for the first year of school.
