May 31, 2012 Three way Roadhouse to Mataranka

Driving the Stuart Highway, you see lots of grasslands, termite mounds, and various shrub, and trees. there are long distances between roadhouses and small villages. Most of the villages and roadhouses popped up during WW2 when the road was built to Darwin.
I have traveled from the Three way Roadhouse to Mataranka having made stops at Elliot, Longreach Waterhole which is just outside Elliott via a dirt track 10 Km into the outback,Newcastle Waters,  named by the explorer John McDouall Stuart when he came across it and now part of a 10,353 Kilometres cattle station, the historic buildings of Newcastle Waters stand as a  museum and memorial to the life of the outback drovers and  Daly Waters, staying at Mataranka.  Stayed in a very nice cabin at the Mataranka Hotel.  The hotel was very interesting, had dinner here and chatted with the locals.  There are a lot of aboriginal people some very friendly if they are not drunk but alcohol is readily available and so you see large groups sitting around drinking. Have not taken any photos of aboriginal peoples yet, you have ask and I have not had a positive yet.
