Left Wycliffe Well for a short 150 Km drive to Tennant Creek. Stopped
at Karlu Karlu / Devil,s Marbles Conservation Reserve, a large area
where thousands of gigantic granite boulders are scattered over a valley
balanced one on top of the other. This area has significance for the
local aboriginal peoples.
Then it was on to Tennant Creek with several spots along the way. Tennant Creek is a small village of approximately 3000 people, here due to the gold that was found here.
Visited the Battery Hill Mining Center and spent a couple hours going through the history display of the area and also a display of mineral samples from various mines. Just up the road from the center is a lookout that gives you a 360 view of Tennant Creek.
Spending the night at the 3way Roadhouse- so named as it is at the start of the Barkley highway and the Stuart highway north and south. The cabins here are not very good, needing a really good updating, this place seems to run on it previous reputation and being that the distances need to travel between these Roadhouses is quite great and because of that those who have caravans and tent trailers and are camping will fill the place at night. The food is not that great, although most of the staff are very pleasant and helpful.
