February 18, 2012.
Today a rest day, time to do laundry and go to the markets. Was late when we walked down to the Esplanade and to the market that we were told was held here on Saturday, could not find it so have decided to walk to Rusty's market which is open on Saturday and Sunday only. If here is a tropical fruit, fruit or vegetable you can find it there and at reasonable price. We bought a large bag of tropical fruit and took it back to the apartment and had tropical fruit salad for lunch. Spent the rest of the day just in the pool and then went out for dinner at the RSL ( Returned Serviceman's League ) where you can get a good meal and spend your $20.00 on the pokes ( slot machines)
Walking on some of the streets of Cairns can be a bit of challenge as you have to make a detour around the trees that the flying foxes are roosting on during the day, they roost during the day and fly out in the evening to eat fruit, some at fruit farms and eat flowers on the gum trees for the nectar and fruit that grown in the tropical forest. They make a terrible mess under the trees in which they roost and so are mot liked in the city.
