Today - off to Kuranda on the Kuranda Scenic Railway, arrived at the station for the 8:30 AM train, for a one and a half hour train ride in train coaches from the 1920,s pulled by a diesel electric engine, the steam engine is just used for special occasions. The railway was started in 1887 and built in three section and finally completed in full in 1910 with the rail to Herberton. The trail today had a few engine problems so we did not stop a Barron Falls as the engineer feared that once stopped the engine would not start again. We arrived 45 minutes late so did not get any time to walk through the small village of Kuranda. On to the Rain Forestation Natural Park to learn about aboriginal culture, Army Duck Rainforest tour and wildlife park, then a quick lunch and on the bus back to Kuranda and a quick walk through the village and back to the Skyrail and back down to the coach for the trip back to Cairns. All in all a very enjoyable day even though it was a bit rushed.
