On the Train to Sydney

March 1,2012

On the train from MacKay to Sydney, departed MacKay at 20:55 February 29, 2012, will not be able to do that again for four years, arriving in Brisbane at 09:10. Bright sunny weather but not too hot. The Tilt train was quite nice and smooth this time but is not a train one might sleep on. All seats are business class and have a TV screen for your use. The food service is adequate and is the usual train fare. The only complaint was that it was very cold over night and there were no blankets but this was due to the train was stopped from getting to Brisbane due to a rail wash out at Gympie .

Had time today to have a walk around the mall on Queen street and look in the shops before having to go back to the Roma station to catch the bus to Casino to get on the train. The bus takes 3.5 hours and then upon arrival you have to wait for about one hour to get the train to Sydney. Have upgraded to a first class sleeper, did not sleep last night and do hope to do that tonight. The train is the XPT Country Link . My area is not a berth but a sleeper with a large bench area and a private toilet and shower just out side the door to my sleeper.  Will try the fare that the rain service in New South Wales has to offer.  Good food but not cooked on board,  just heated up.
