Have driven to Portland today with my cousins. Will be staying here for several days. The weather has not been very good, cold and raining.
European settlement began in the Portland with whalers and sealers and then a settlement began with the arrival of Edward Henty in the Ladybird in November 1834. the cultural landscape within the region is nationally recognized as the Budj Bim National Heritage - one of the oldest examples of permanent indigenous settlements.
Portland is a harbour-side city of over 11,000. Whale watching can be done as they frequent Portland Bay, Cape Nelson and Cape Bridgewater year round.
Have gone for several site seeing rides but the weather is not good for photos, so have spent a couple days relaxing and visiting with my relatives that live here just out side the city on a farm.
