Railay Bay, PHi PhI Island tour.

Have booked a whole day trip tomorrow to the Phi Phi Islands. Going to Maya Bay, Monkey Bay, Lohsamah Bay, Pileh Bay, Viking Cave, Phi Phi Don, Hin Klarng and Bamboo Island.

This part of Thailand is very scenic, the area that is Railay Beach East and West is a rocky peninsula that is part of Krabi and is known for rock climbing and white beaches. There is also snorkeling and diving but one must go out of the local area as the water is not to clear near to shore, so most people head out to the Phi Phi Islands where there is coral reefs and clearer water.

The resort here is nice but does need a bit of updating and a new coat of paint. The beaches are not a clean as those on the Island of Koh Tao where they are very eco conscious. As you walk along the beach on East Railay Bay you see garbage in the trees that are along the beach and although they sweep the walks in the resort once you are off West Railay Beach you also see paper and other stuff that the tourist have thrown away on the beach walk also.

If they do not start to clean up and make this a eco friendly green resort it will not be a very nice place in a few years.

The Railay Bay Resort and Spa is a five star property but the service is not that good, the staff are not as helpful as they could be and tend to be a bit slow to get things done.

The other services at the resort are fairly good, but they service a large demographic and do speak a number of languages but do not seen to speak English all that well.

The Chokpaisan – Phi Phi Islands tour was very good, visited one beautiful island after another and the trip out was very good, large speed boat with only a small number of guests, some other tours tend to pack quite a few persons into one boat. First stop was Bamboo Island and we went ashore for 45 minutes to explore, then off to the Viking Cave where the locals go and get birds nests for birds nest soup, then on to Phi Phi Don Island for lunch. Very touristy here with hundreds of people and a large number of boats in the harbor. After lunch on to Pileh Bay, Maya Bay and to Loksamah Bay to feed the fish. This place is very interesting , just like your own aquarium with hundreds of fish of different colors just there for you to enjoy seeing. After this we went to another bay so that you could snorkel and that was the whole day. Back to the resort at 4:30 PM.

March 25, 2012.

Just spending the day in, have to do laundry and then get some of the blog done up, tomorrow we move on will take a boat, mini van, bus and train and arrive in Bangkok on the 27th at 10:AM. Have a sleeper on the train. The train service here is very good and depending on which grade of service you take can be a very cheap way to travel.

Koh Tau to Krabi,Ao Nang and Railay

March 21, 2012

From Koh Tao to Karabi , Ao Nang and Railay

Leaving Koh Tao, early start, have to be a the pick up for the taxi at 9:00, we are then taken to the ferry wharf and a one and a half hour trip over the very blue Gulf of Thailand to the Island of Ko Pha Ngan, then disembark and wait for 45 minutes for the other ferry to arrive and then we have another 45 minute ride to the island of Ko Samui, where we make a brief stop and then again another 1hour and one half ride to the final stop at Don Sat Pier. We then get on a bus for a one hour ride to Suratthani , and then wait again for 45 minutes until we get the bus to Krabi. We arrive at Krabi we will arrange our bus and train tickets to bangkok for the 26th as we have an overnight train trip to Bangkok and have to be there on the 28th as we will be flying out to Kathmandu.

The ferry ride was exceptional ( fast Cat) did not feel a thing, very smooth. Just sit back and relax.
The buses are also about the same a the Greyhound line in Canada. They for the most part are air conditioned and are very clean. The highway system in Thailand appears to be very good and as in other places during the dry season there is a bit of road construction.

Staying in Ao Nang at the Best Western, and tomorrow we will relocate to Railay Beach. The Best Western has seen better days and although it was clean it does seem to need a bit of paint. Over all was good and breakfast was included. Not bad breakfast.

Out in the morning to find transportation to Railay, going by longtail boat. Only a 10 minute ride from the wharf to the beach at Railay. Amazing scenery on the boat ride over, this place where we are staying is very beautiful and while Elicia is rock climbing I will have plenty to keep me busy with all the different walks that are around here. Last evening took photos of the sun set and this morning got up early to see the sun rise.
